PawPawRod shines a light on self-exploration with new track "Shadow"

7/15/2025

Getting far enough away from yourself to examine the parts of your soul that don’t see the light is a task easier chronicled than completed.

Singer/songwriter PawPaw Rod’s newest single “Shadow” rejoices in the former challenge while musing on the latter. While he might deliver a catchy tune about making amends with his identity, it’s not without “hard knocks” and “road blocks.”

“Shadow” drips with PawPaw Rod’s signature funk and finesse while hinging on this theme of internal tug-of-war. This track is what it feels like to earn a few dollars off of a pull tab— a momentary state of bliss followed by a humble acceptance that luck is both sparing and bountiful. Though we may never know the deepest parts of ourselves, good fortune comes to those who at least take a stab at it.

The music video for “Shadow” features clips of him gallivanting across stage during his sets at The Echo and Coachella on his debut headlining tour earlier this year. It’s seemingly casual and artistically rich as it captures PawPaw Rod’s playful and pensive nature in technicolor.

The next step up on the chain of success will be the release of his EP, Doobie Mouth (An EP From PawPaw Rod), on August 9. Shortly before, PawPaw Rod will embark on his "Doobie Mouth" tour headlining, supporting Still Woozy, and playing at various festivals. So until you can catch him live under the stage lights, take a trip into his shadow.
